Job Description
Title:    Director, Operations – Western Region
    
Reports To:      VP, Operations

POSITION OBJECTIVE:  Directs and assists with the development of the organization related to policies, practices, and attainment of operational goals.  Directs and assists with the annual strategic plan implementation and operations of assigned surgery centers as well as the start-up and operations preparation of assigned centers.  Ensures high quality patient care standards are met consistent with AAAHC and The Joint Commission regulations in an efficient and cost effective manner.  Oversees and manages, in collaboration with, the Administrator, the financial performance of the centers.  Meets or exceeds the expectations of the client.
    
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Leadership
Interfaces with Board of Directors, health system key relationships, physician owners, center management, and corporate personnel, to ensure a successful ongoing operation is being obtained as a team. 
Attends and facilitates Board of Directors meetings for assigned centers under the direction of the Vice President and assures outcomes from the meetings are implemented and carried forward into strategic direction and operations management.
Provides direction to maintain a successful organization structure and ownership group
Manages, along with the Vice President, contract renewals and other business opportunities.
 Ability to assess and create solutions to customer needs.
Ensures customer satisfaction and proactively addresses customer concerns.
Coaches, mentors, and leads members of ASC management.

Strategic Direction
 Annually completes Strategic Planning Session for all managed facilities.
Directs and assists in each center’s annual budget preparation and execution to achieve desired results in coordination with the Vice President.
Implements a rolling 90-day work plan to achieve strategic and business plan results.
Develops a sound short and long range plan for the organization.
Provides direction and assistance with physician recruitment and retention.
Provides direction to maintain a successful legal organization structure and ownership group
Develops, implements, and manages the centers’ marketing program in conjunction with the center administrator.
Ensures that profit and year end goals are attained and aligned with the organization.

Link to Corporate Support Services
Directs and assists in the coordination of obtaining resource knowledge and support from key Support Services functional units (IT, HR, materials management, business office, finance, clinical, and payer contracting) to maximize the result of each center; without over utilizing functional units on a routine basis
Ensures services are delivered as defined in each centers scope of services.  Monitors any incentives and works to maximize contribution to the client and corporation.

Operations Management
Recruits and orients center administrators and other key management team members of assigned centers as needed in coordination with the Vice President.
Manages along with the Administrator start-up and operations preparation activities, including implementation of information systems, business office practices and center policies and procedures of assigned centers.
Maintains effective and active communication with center administrator and other members of the management team.
Monitors monthly operating performance related to annual budget and key indicators set forth by Support Services.
Assists in the analysis and recommendations for capital equipment purchases.
Directs and assists the management of each center’s staffing patterns to achieve optimum clinical and administrative hours per surgical case.
Assists the Administrator in the overall clinical operations and patient care delivery of each center.
Directs and assists ASCs in the compliance with regulatory and accreditation agencies.
Directs and assists Administrator with compliance of corporate policies and procedures that impact each center.

Education:
Graduate of an approved college program required, MHA or MBA or equivalent education preferred

Experience:

Minimum 10 years of health care management experience, 5/7 years operational ambulatory surgery center required.
Experience in strategy development and physician relations to execute in a team environment.
Demonstrated experience with surgery center business office functions including billing, accounts receivable management, and accounts payable management.
Experience with personnel management including employee supervision, recruitment and training, and employee performance improvement.
Experience with third-party payer contracting, physician recruitment and retention, and marketing.
